Friday afternoons at Bapz have been called "French Fridays" for three years but English has tended to dominate our meetings.

I'd like to see Fridays be more about a balanced exchange.

The idea would be to chat for an hour in one language and an hour in the other and rotate the order each week.

For example: this Friday we can start in French and finish in English and the following week, start in English and finish in French.

What do you think?

I think starting in English and switching to French was working very well 3 years ago if you keep changing, no one will never know if you're supposed to start in French or in English...

I think that is a great idea. English in Toulouse is fantastic -but I have to say that I rarely practised my French at the meetings. I also think the rota system would be the fairest. I guess there are some who can never come for the entire meeting. It would be annoying if they had to speek the same language every week -and possibly not the one they want to practise.

I try to speak a bit of French at least at all the meetings, Friday or not! And would be happy if it was more 'officialised' but don't think that's really possible.

We need the English natives to be ready to speak French but also the French natives should start conversations in French too, don't wait for us to start as it you might be waiting a while!

Hmmm, you all make excellent points, it's hard to know what to do...!

It seems that the majority of you are in favour of the rota where we start in English then switch to French one week, and the reverse the following week, so let's give that a try for a couple of weeks and see how it goes.

Meanwhile, feel free to post your feedback on here and if the rota doesn't work, we'll look at other options. Is that fair?
