Terra Vinea Wine Tour, June 27th, 2009

English in Toulouse had a day trip to Les Corbieres on Saturday June 27th, 2009.

It was a hot, sunny day with clear blue skies. We left Toulouse around 9.30am and had a pit stop about half way to view the fortified medieval city of Carcassonne, before continuing on to a hearty lunch at Terra Vinea. Lunch was cassoulet or duck with cepes and icecream or profiteroles.

After lunch we did the tour of the gyprock mines which have been converted from a mine into a guided walking tour of the history of wine in the Corbieres region, with a light show set to music. The tour lasted for about an hour and then we tasted 8 different wines including 1 white, 1 rose, 4 reds and 2 sweet white wines.

After the tour, we drove out to Leucate for a quick swim at the beach followed by a cold drink at a nearby cafe in the village.

We got back to Toulouse around 9.30pm and went for an apero at Le Sylene pub (our Last Wednesdays venue) and ended the evening with kebabs from the Lebanese restaurant near Croix de la Daurade, which we ate by the side of the Garonne river.

We caught the last metro home, just before 1am, thus ending a fantastic day! Thanks to everyone who came, and a special thanks to those who drove!
