Venue information

The Crowne Plaza is a hotel in the city centre, just off Place du Capitole. We meet at the bar where it's usually quiet and great for conversation. There are comfortable lounge chairs, friendly bar staff and free bar nibblies until 9pm. There are also meals available to order from the bar at around 10 to 15 euro, if you'd like to eat there.

News: Crowne Plaza Night goes bilingual

English in Toulouse held a trial French/English language exchange at Crowne Plaza Night on June 10th, 2009.

The evening was an overwhelming success with around 20 people attending, and an almost even split between native English and native French speakers.

From 8.30pm to 10pm the set language was English and from 10pm to 11.30pm, French. After 11.30pm it was anything goes and many people stayed on until long after the bar had officially closed at midnight.

The exchange is set to become a regular occurence at Crowne Plaza Nights, which meets on the second Wednesday of every month.

The purpose of the new initiative is to help native English speakers integrate in France by practicing their French and to help native French speakers practice their English in exchange.

One of the most positive outcomes of the exchange was the willingness of people to get in there and support each other and there was a lot of musical chairs going on, with people feeling free to get up and move around to chat with different groups of people.

The decision to hold the exchange at Crowne Plaza Nights came from the results of the latest poll on the forum. Of those who voted, 40% asked for a language exchange at Crowne Plaza Nights and a further 20% of voters said that they would be happy with whichever decision was made.

Crowne Plaza Night has been a fixture on the English in Toulouse calendar since December 2005. Prior to June 10th 2009, meetings were held exclusively in English.
